Ubud's terraces and waterfalls, privately

CV. Bali Private Transports sends a driver-guide to your hotel for a day around Ubud: Tegallalang's rice terraces, the Tirta Empul water temple and three waterfalls. Couples book it because the car and the pace are theirs, with nobody to wait for at the end of each stop.

Ubud: Waterfalls, Water Temple & Rice Terraces

About this experience

The car and the guide are yours; the places are not. Tegallalang, Tirta Empul and the waterfalls are public sites, and by late morning they are busy. What you get is a driver who waits, a guide who explains the temple, and the freedom to stay longer where you like it. The listing offers a 6-hour option with up to three attractions, or a full day of up to 10 hours.

The listing calls its itinerary a reference, so you can shape it. The usual order is the Tegallalang terraces for photos and a walk, then Tirta Empul, where you can join the purification ritual in the spring pools. After an optional lunch come three waterfalls: Tukad Cepung, inside a cave, reached by about 200 steps and shallow water; Kanto Lampo, photogenic and crowded at peak times; and Tibumana, a quieter forest fall with a pool. A coffee plantation tasting is optional on the way back.

Two honest notes. Entrance tickets are included or not depending on the option you choose, and lunch is not included. And waterfalls can run brown after rain, so in the wet season the terraces and the temple may be the better half of the day.

  • A private driver-guide and car for the two of you
  • Tegallalang rice terraces at the start of the day
  • The purification ritual at Tirta Empul, if you want it
  • Tukad Cepung, a waterfall falling into a cave
  • Kanto Lampo and Tibumana waterfalls

Tips before you book

  • Start early. The listing says so too, and the terraces are calmer before the coaches arrive.
  • Pack a towel and dry clothes for the ritual at Tirta Empul and the swim at Tibumana.
  • Wear sandals with grip. Paths are uneven, the steps at Tukad Cepung are steep, and the rocks are slippery.
  • Check whether your option includes entrance tickets before you go.
  • Tell the guide what you want to skip. The itinerary is a reference, not a script.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ubud tour really private?

The car and the driver-guide are just for you two. The terraces, the temple and the waterfalls are public places you share with other visitors.

Do we have to join the purification ritual?

No. It is optional. If you take part, you get wet, so bring a change of clothes and a towel, and cover shoulders and knees at the temple.

How long is the day?

The listing gives two options: about 6 hours with up to three attractions, or a full day of up to 10 hours. Driving takes about an hour each way from the south.

Are the waterfalls worth it in the rainy season?

They flow harder but can turn brown after rain. Our rainy season post has the months to watch.
